Come in Shirt Number 23 – Your Time is Up

The Real DC

On Monday night, top of the table City took on one of its traditional rivals Juventus Masters. On the Master’s side ringers were everywhere – so much so I thought it was a campanologist conference rather than a football match.

Unfortunately, we came up short. In the first half we played some decent football without reaching some of the season’s previous heights. Erick pulled off a cracking one on one save and Paul C scored a well taken volley from Martin’s pin point cross. In reality, neither side were particularly good nor bad – we simply seemed to cancel one another out to a large degree. But the score was 1-0 to us at half time.

The second half was a relatively different story, at least when we down to 10 men due to yellow cards. Apologies for that however I honestly can say that I thought he went for me and I was protecting myself. This decision left us exposed and Juventus took advantage of it by keeping the ball and pushing forward. This approach stretched our capacity to go forward and get the all important second goal. That said, the effort and commitment of the remaining 10 was great to watch and appreciated. Juventus pushed onto score 2 scrappy goals the winner in the last 10 minutes to win the game.

No need to go back to the drawing board. The season has been great, the football often very impressive, the collegiality good – lots to be proud of. Let’s pick ourselves up and go again. Not much of a technical match report but it’s from the heart, let’s go on and win it from here and that’s the last time I’m wearing #23!

MMM Memorable moment – Ray for NOT getting a warning for his crunching tackles or was that him just protecting his bargain basement new boots purchase?
MMM Muppet moments – The collector of yellow cards – Coops and the new step over move by the Gaffer to help his bestie Daree on the way to victory.
